This is a sketch I drew from a model in the art class I am taking. I had a very short time to draw and this is the first of 5 attempts that looks best. I sketched this on heavy weight drawing paper (medium surface) and the size is 18" x 24". Next week I will re-sketch onto a canvas so I can make a painting out of it. Luckily the model will be there again, in the same pose! I wish I had done the sketch on canvas to begin with but I have never worked on drawing a live model before and was unsure. I think it turned out ok. The teacher wanted us (beginners!) to work the abstract shapes that make up the figure rather than focusing on the details. Lucky since I am not good at hands and faces (as you can see!).

Oil Painting (ongoing project)

This is a new painting I am working on. It's an oil painting of a sketch posted earlier (man looking beyond a chain fence). I fixed my horizon during the 2nd session and added depth to the night sky. I am thinking of changing the foreground, which I believe needs to be less angular.

Tree of Light (Part of GM Series)

I have begun a new series of sculptures entitled "Green Motion". They combine the natural, site-specific environment with modern technology to achieve effects such as light and movement. The art form has roots in eco-art though the applications is somewhat different. Too often we forget that the people who we create art for may want to connect on a more fundamental level. A way to achieve this with great effect is to be able actually glimpse function through motion or change.

This sketch will evolve into a large-scale oil painting once I add the rest of the scene to the right side.

Black ink painting

I used watercolor black on a fine brush to make these.

Murakami Museum, Bamboo Forest

My Mom

My Mother is a silent warrior. You can hardly see the effects of raising five children on a forty-foot boat on her face. No marks from her great sacrifice remain; just the same gentle spirit and soft smile that melt days of tension from your weary shoulders. Her unyielding belief in me has given me wings. I am a rocket scientist because she taught me to believe in myself. I am a loving wife because she taught me to forgive. Now I am a blissful mother because she taught me to be grateful.

Hey Field Painting

I spent less time working on this painting than I did thinking about it. The photograph I worked from didn't have a house in the background but the image needed something. I thought, if I lived in a little house in this field, on a cold foggy morning such as this, I wouldn't mind a nice warm fire. 2004

Forest Canopy

This is my second painting, done during the fall of 2004. My husband went into the everglades to do some field work and I went with him. My sister asked me to paint this scene but I was still learning about color mixing and the lighting in the hotel room was less than ideal. I was so dissatisfied with its progress that I reworked parts of it for almost two weeks. The end result is that under lighting, the tree appears to change position. It's very eerie.

Homestead

This is the first painting I completed. I was very ill at the time and hadn't painted anything since high school. I just felt the urge and was surprised by my persistence not to mention my ability to concentrate since I was watching the Boston Red Sox win the World Series at the same time. This particular piece is from a photograph and was done using acrylics.
